Pick Up Bargains In Our Sales

07/02/2013
At Next Day Catering we can offer you an incredibly diverse array of catering supplies for every occasion. The great thing about us is that since we have such a good variety, we always seem to have items that are discounted on sale. This could be the perfect opportunity for you to grab a bargain and save hundreds of pounds in the process. It is worthwhile remembering that if there is some commercial catering equipment that you need, we can always source it from somewhere else at the same competitive prices.

One of the most expensive items on our site are the ovens we stock. These can cost upwards of £16000 so it is always a special occasion when one of our turbo fan ovens becomes available at a cut price. A large oven can set you back a lot, so it is always great to find what you want at a special price. When cooking in high capacity ovens, it is important that they are reliable and have at least 1 year’s worth of warranty, which we offer, even with our sale items. The Rational SelfCooking Centres are some of the best ovens ever made and will find a home in any commercial space. These ovens truly are a special breed that offer different ways of cooking with full control over the oven’s functions.

Our other commercial kitchen equipment includes everything from heavy duty meat mincers to water boilers. Each of these can cost hundreds so our sales area is a good place to check out first. Mincers have an upper capacity load per hour, so for commercial applications it is always important to understand just what you require. Water boilers often require permanent connections to mains water but have the capacity to not boil when too empty, thereby saving themselves from damage. When it comes to boiling water quickly and dispensing it quicker there is often no better way. On the other hand, ice cube makers are also vital when it comes to having a fresh supply of ice for wine buckets, drinks and other purposes.

For small savings there are also thermometers which can be placed into liquids and semi-solids to ensure that they have reached the preferred temperature. These won’t break the bank individually, but if you are buying in bulk for a chain of stores saving a couple of pounds on the individual prices can really stack up.

At all other times we can offer savings on a wide variety of products which can really make the difference to your budget. If you are falling short with a competitor, our sales could help you to make up the numbers when buying in bulk. It is also worthwhile considering that we can offer leased products for those times when you are on a budget and need to spread some of the costs. An oven from us can be leased for under £10, allowing you to make ends meet while also delivering for your clients and customers.

What is Cooking Equipment?

31/01/2013

Cooking equipment ranges far and wide, whether it is down to race, culture, or tradition. Some types of equipment are cheap to purchase, whilst others will clean out your wallet completely, leaving you with barely enough money to purchase the ingredients themselves.

We pride ourselves in using the best equipment available to us. We have discovered from experience that the most expensive pieces of equipment are not always the best to use - they may look fancy, and they may take a bit of time off of your cooking schedule, but that doesn't make them the best. The best pieces of cooking equipment are usually the simplest.

Take the wooden spoon for example...where would we be without it? You can put all of your ingredients into a blender or a food processor, but there is nothing wrong with a bit of elbow grease to get it going. It adds a little something extra to the mix.

A food processor is an item of cooking equipment that no good kitchen should be without though. It cuts down the time you need to spend on mixing your ingredients, meaning you have extra time to spend on other parts of the recipe. It also ensures that everything is processed properly...and gives you arm a bit of a break!

Another essential piece of cooking equipment is the pestle and mortar. A simple, traditional piece of equipment that has been used for thousands of years, the pestle and mortar helps to break down small pieces of hard food, mix together herbs and spices, and make sauces. There are numerous other uses for it too.

How to use a Mandoline

26/01/2013
What is a Mandoline then? A mandoline is a piece of kitchen equipment that is used for slicing and grating foods like onions, carrots and apples to name a few. There sole purpose is to ensure even cutting in terms of thickness and size every time. The piece fruit or veg is attached on the mandoline which is then drawn along up past a razon sharp blade which then cuts it perfectly with very little effort, although precise cutting is important the speed in which this tool does this job is also very important as you can cut literally hundreds of pieces for service in very little time.

Which Mandoline should I choose

Choosing the correct mandoline for your need should be fairly easy for you are the one who is going to use it, firstly I would suggest thinking of what size you will need for the jobs ahead, you can buy mandolins in lots of different sizes. With this in mind you now have to decide on which material you wish to use, personally I would recommend plastic or stainless steel. Wooden mandolins are a definite no.
Most mandolins come with the same spare elements these include a range of blades, cutting tops and piece grippers which attach themselves to the food being used. However you will get what you pay for, there are loads on offer out there on the world wide web and there are some terrible efforts on other websites. Our range of Mandolins have been chosen with one thing in mind “quality”, we have listed only the best mandolins so you can be sure that when you get your delivered you are getting the best around. Most manufacturers will offer a 1 year warranty with these items however you should be able to get about 5 or 6 years use from any of our range.

Cleaning a mandoline

Cleaning your mandoline should be done after each use to ensure the blade is clean and and dry, if you do not clean and dry you blade immediately your blade can easily rust ruining your equipment in a short space of time. I would wash in hot soapy water to ensure all bugs are dead, dry and store away safely.

Choosing Oven to Tableware

25/01/2013
When choosing cookware there are many things which you must consider and because there are so many items to choose from you must know what to look for. Utensils, pots and pans, through to baking trays and gastronorm pans. These are just a few of what you have to consider when purchasing tableware for your establishment. However it really depends on what your going to be cooking weather its lasagne of shepherd's pie that your serving you must be certain that you have the correct bakeware.

Why choose oven to tableware?

Oven to tableware is necessary as it allows the food to be cooked properly but also offer a hand in displaying the food to a degree. You can easily use oven to tableware to display your menu on something like a hot plate this allows customers to view what they are about to eat and in most cases can be used as a point of sale method.
In doing this customers can even serve themselves speeding the throughput of your foodservice.

Which material should I choose?

There are many materials to choose from like earthenware or cast iron but the best we have found to use is cast iron cookware. Vogue offer a fantastic range of oven to tableware from round gratins and casseroles to mini pots and oval eared dishes so you will have a huge range to choose from.

Buying Catering Crockery

24/01/2013
When it comes to buying catering crockery there are a huge range available with such brands as churchill and steelite. There are various sizes and shapes from different manufacturers and the thought of buying such things can be a daunting task for buyers

Deciding how much you want to spend on crockery is always important, you must set a budget and stick to it as you can easily get carried away.

When choosing catering crockery you must decide on a few factors, is portion control going to play a big role in your business running successfully, as such company like costa and starbucks always work with portion control in mind to ensure maximum profit is gained through what is sold in size.

Another important factor will be to decide whether  the
crockery you need should be made from durable materials like plastic or should it be plastic.

Catering Crockery Items on offer

Creating a dinner time theme

Catering crockery can help you create an atmosphere in your establishment. Most restaurants and bars will choose a clean white crockery from big names like churchill or steelite for easy cleaning which also looks the part and creates something special for the customer experience. These big brand names also offer chip warranties if being used in oven etc this is always a good idea. More budget brands of crockery like athena and olympia can also be used and will last a good length of wear and tear and are ideal for cafes and smaller restaurants.

Striking Out on your Own

22/01/2013
Like many other chefs at the moment, you may well be thinking of striking out on your own. After all, with so many commercial catering establishments being forced to downsize their operations these days, redundancies and terminations are very much a daily concern. Therefore, setting up an independent operation on your own terms can often be a better option than struggling to make ends meet if/when your P45 arrives seemingly out of the blue.

Whilst starting your own catering enterprise might seem a bit of a scary proposition from the outset, it can actually turn out to be a somewhat lucrative career move - if you do it right. Indeed, customers who are looking for catering services nowadays are looking to save money like everyone else; so, if you can provide them with high-quality services that cost less than the bigger catering companies in your region, you will be able to effectively undercut the competition and carve out a nice little niche for your own operation.

Of course, you will only be able to provide high-quality services if you use catering supplies that enable you to deliver appetising and tasty creations in an appealing and effective way.

Whilst commercial kitchen equipment will probably not be a necessity if you are starting a small or mobile catering business; you will still need equipment that will enable you to prepare high-quality food offerings before they are transported to the event or occasion. Indeed, essential items like ovens, stoves, griddles, steamers, boilers, fryers, fridges and freezers will likely be very high on your equipment wish list.

In addition to the essentials, you will also need to have a range of devices and appliances which will help to make your small enterprise function more efficiently. For example, things like blenders, food processors, mixers, bread makers, ice cream makers, electric whisks, juicers, commercial toasters, and water boilers can all help you to deliver tasty meals and snacks in a quick and effective manner.

Of course, presentation is very important in the catering industry, especially when you are endeavouring to leave people with a good impression of your fledgling company. So, as well as offering attractive-looking food, you (and any other staff you have) should also make sure you wear appropriate catering uniforms as this will make your operation look smart and professional. Certainly, you will be far more likely to impress people if you turn up to an event wearing chef’s whites and server’s uniforms than you would if you were attired in your normal weekend wear.

Without doubt, having the right kitchen equipment, appliances and uniforms will help you to establish your fledgling enterprise as a force to be reckoned with.

So, if you ‘re thinking seriously about striking out on your own and starting your own catering business, now could well be the perfect time for you to have a look at out offerings here at Next Day Catering.

Could You Become an Events Caterer?

17/12/2012
If you’re bored of the 9 to 5 grind, there are other options available. Whether you’re an accomplished chef or just an enthusiastic amateur cook, you could start your own catering business. If you aren't afraid of hard work, would like to choose your own hours and use your creativity of a daily basis, event catering could be the job for you. All you need is a kitchen, some good quality catering supplies and buckets of enthusiasm!

What Do Events Caterers Do?

Events caterers produce menus and provide food and beverages for weddings, funerals, parties, conferences or other events. As an events caterer, you might prepare food on site (from a catering van for example), or may prepare the meals in your own kitchen then transport them to the event. You may also have to provide serving staff for the event.

The Routine

For events caterers, no two days are the same. You may have to start early in the morning, and may not finish until late in the evening (although you will have the freedom to choose which events you cater).

If you are catering for an event in the evening, your day may start at around 8am. While you are preparing the food and drinks, you may also have to accept deliveries, answer phone calls and organise your kitchen equipment for the event.

You should be at the event at least an hour before it is due to start. While you are at the event, even if your work is finished, you should aim to network with guests and possibly get a few new customers.

After the event, you will have to remove any leftovers and clean up. This will leave a positive impression of you with everyone who was at the event.

Skills and Training

Becoming an events caterer doesn’t require any specific training or qualifications. All you need is some culinary prowess and the will to succeed. However, if your confidence in your cooking abilities is lacking, you could take a course to brush up on your skills.

Running a catering company also requires a lot of business acumen. There are lots of resources available to help you master these skills, or you could take a local business course.

Premises and Equipment

The good thing about becoming an events caterer is that it requires very little initial outlay. Although you may have to invest in some commercial catering equipment in order to produce large amounts of food quickly, your own kitchen should suffice for food preparation. You can also convert a room in your house to an office for preparing accounts and other administrative tasks.

The First Steps

If you think you are well suited to the world of events catering, here are the first steps you should take:

Decide on a specialism, e.g. deserts, vegetarian food, children’s parties.

Research the local area to see what demands for events caterers there are.

Get the right licenses, e.g. food hygiene certificate, alcohol license.

Don’t overbook yourself too soon. Assess your performance after your first event and take the time to iron out any issues before taking on another.

Out to Lunch: Midday Meal Spurs Growth in Catering Supplies Industry

27/11/2012
A report from one industry consultancy, released this autumn, has found that Britain’s lunch market is set to grow more rapidly than the rest of the dining out market.

A trade show seminar was told that the growth rate for this area of the market  was well over 3% since 2009. Lunchtime trade in the UK catering industry is now worth nearly £15bn, or just over a third of the entire food service market.

And its growth in recent years has been a bright spot in an otherwise relatively static marketplace.

It is expected that this growth will continue to increase over the next couple of years, so that midday trade will account for nearer to 36% of the overall sector by 2014.

The recession has piled the pressure on many workers, who will prefer to have a takeaway to have at their desk rather than going out to eat, and who may not have had time to put their own midday meal together.

Equally, as well as quick options, the recession has made meal deals and money-off vouchers popular in catering outlets everywhere, and many of these offers only apply at lunchtime.

So those in the catering supplies industry need to appreciate this development, which means that many consumers are expecting more for less money from their outlets.

Expectations are for high standards of service and quality food. And, in fact, given the downturn, increasingly consumers are only willing to spend money where a venue meets these sky-high expectations for a price which they are happy with.

With such a lot to think about and take into account in the current climate, you need to be more careful than ever when it comes to choosing a company to supply your commercial catering equipment.

31/10/2012
If you work in the fast paced world of catering then you will know just how important it is to have everything in your kitchen in full working order. Certainly, the catering industry is an extremely difficult one to survive in, let alone prosper, as the smallest little thing that goes wrong can ruin an establishment’s reputation within a matter of days.

It is therefore vitally important that everyone and everything in your kitchen is working to the best of their ability as this will ensure every meal that leaves the kitchen will be of the highest standard - each and every time.

Effective catering
Of course, there are many parts of a catering business that need to mesh in order for it to come together as a whole. Setting Up an Independent Catering Business

07/09/2012
With so many people being made redundant these days, more and more are turning towards harnessing their skills and using them to set up independently. For chefs and others in the catering industry, setting up independently can turn out to be quite lucrative, especially if you are able to undercut the big companies and help out your customers who are looking to save a penny or two as well. Private catering companies are needed all the time, for weddings, corporate and private events, funerals and christenings, among others. However, in order to present yourself as a professional independent caterer, you will need a range of catering supplies to ensure the job gets done to the highest standard.

Commercial kitchen equipment may well not be necessary if you are setting up as a mobile caterer to work at different events, as you may have use of someone else’s kitchen and equipment. However if you’re preparing the food beforehand to then transport to the event, you will need a certain amount of quality commercial catering equipment, including an oven, stove, griddle, steamer, broiler, fryer, fridge and freezer.

You will also need a range of tools and appliances which can make your life easier, including a food processor, mixer, blender, bread maker, ice cream maker, electric whisk, juicer, commercial toaster, and water boiler. Pots and pans of varying sizes are a must, as is a good set of sharp knives and other utensils.

A mobile catering business may need this equipment installing into a vehicle from which you can serve food directly. We all know of the burger van at the side of the road, but more upmarket mobile catering services can be extremely profitable these days. Positioned carefully outside events such as concerts or football matches, a good quality product can lure hungry participants and you’ll soon have a queue right around the stadium!

For those who are providing a sit-down catering service, you will need to invest in some crockery, cutlery and glassware for serving your culinary creations. These should be appropriate to the kind of food you are planning on serving, and perhaps even tie in with your branding, if applicable.

To demonstrate professionalism, you and any staff you hire should wear appropriate catering uniforms. This includes chef’s whites, and a suitable server’s uniform.

Finally, to ensure sufficient health and safety standards are in place, you will need the right cleaning supplies as well as correct working practices. Catering equipment tends to be made from stainless steel because it is resistant to rust and easy to clean. You may also want some colour-coded knives and chopping boards to avoid food contamination, as well as rubber/plastic gloves and hairnets.

All of this equipment may sound like it amounts to a lot, but an investment of some kind is necessary when starting up most kinds of business. Contacting your bank or local business agency or council may get you the loan or grant you need towards this equipment, and you’ll soon see the rewards coming in once you set up.

Essential Kitchen Equipment for a New Catering Enterprise

05/09/2012

If you are thinking of opening up a commercial catering enterprise then you need to be prepared in a number of ways. First off, you need to be mentally prepared to work very, very hard as commercial catering is a very competitive business. Secondly, you need to be logistically prepared with reliable equipment that will enable you to deliver meals in a safe and timely manner. Indeed, today's commercial kitchens have to cope with great demands so you need to ensure that you have high- quality equipment which will allow you to provide great results and endure constant use.

If you are purchasing commercial kitchen equipment for the very first time then you need to make yourself aware of what your own particular enterprise will need to adequately cater for your customer base each and every day. For the most part, you will require equipment that enables you to keep food fresh, carry out suitable preparations and cook delicious meals.

Refrigeration units

Refrigeration units are the cornerstone of any commercial kitchen as they keep foods at the correct temperature before and after preparation. Therefore you will need to have high-quality refrigerators and freezers in your kitchen as they will provide you with the performance and capacity that your commercial enterprise needs to be successful. Reach-in refrigerators and freezers provide easy access to foods stored for later use whilst under-the- counter freezers and refrigerators make it easy to store foods on the kitchen line. Specialist drinks coolers can also be integral additions as they ensure that beverages are always chilled and ready to serve.

Preparation equipment

Depending on the type of catering enterprise you are looking to start up, you will also most likely need to purchase equipment that enables you to prepare sauces, soups and to sauté foods. Solid cook tops are essential purchases as they are used by chefs to cook meats and other culinary recipes that require grilling or charring. Other kitchen equipment items that can be very useful in the preparation of food include mixers, blenders and food warmers. Commercial mixers are very popular in catering enterprises these days as they can accept large batches of flour or liquids and significantly speed up mixing processes. Heavy duty blenders can also be very useful as they can quickly and efficiently create large amounts of sauces, marinades and stocks.

Cooking equipment

Whilst ovens and microwaves have their place, the ability to fry foods is perhaps the most important necessity when it comes to the actual cooking element of your catering enterprise. With this in mind, commercial fryers are invaluable as they enable chefs to cook frozen foods to perfection. Commercial fryers are frequently sold in individual, double or triple units so you should easily be able to find one that will meet your own specific requirements.

Without doubt, having suitably impressive commercial catering equipment will help to get your commercial catering enterprise off to a good start. Just don’t forget the hard work!

What kind of commercial kitchen equipment will you need?

25/06/2012
Creating a commercial kitchen relies just as much on having the right equipment as it does on the staff, location and even your menu, because unless you’ve got the items to meet your needs you’ll never be able to give customers the experience they’re after. There are a whole range of products you’ll have to invest in before you can get your kitchen off the ground, so just what kind of commercial kitchen equipment will you need?

Extraction canopies/ventilation systems. Most professional kitchens will need a ventilation system of some kind, so it’s important to consider this aspect before you even get onto the more general pieces of equipment you’ll need.

Ovens and cooking equipment. Of course, you can’t run a kitchen without having equipment to cook with, and there are plenty of different items that could be necessary. You’ll probably want a combi oven and/or convection oven, a range, fryer, microwave, grill and hob, and depending on the type of food you’re offering you could well need things like commercial toasters, Panini grills, smokers and even barbeques too, and it makes sense to be prepared.

Frozen, chilled and dry goods storage options. Proper food storage should be a top priority if you want to be operating legally and safely, so make sure to invest in the right kind of refrigerators, freezers and dry storage facilities to suit.

Dishwashers and dishwashing facilities. Depending on the size of establishment you run, chances are you’ll need a commercial dishwasher of some sort to ensure you can keep on top of all those dirty dishes. But, don’t rely on these alone—dishwashers can and do break down, so if you don’t want to be stuck with a pile of dirty dishes make sure to have a couple of sinks (in dishwashing tabling) readily available too.

Accessories. Once you’ve got the major pieces of equipment out of the way you’ll need to start thinking about the smaller items in your potential itinerary, and if you want to run an efficient kitchen you’ll need everything from blenders and food processors to chef’s knives and cookware.

Additional points to remember

These are just a few pieces of commercial catering equipment you’ll need if you want your establishment to get going, but there are a number of additional points you should remember as well. For example, you’ll need to decide if you’ve got adequate space and will need to understand how to position your equipment effectively to ensure efficient workflow and maximum productivity, and of course you need to get top-quality products without blowing the budget. That’s where we can help, and if you’re looking for products or advice make sure to get in touch.

Having the right pieces of kitchen equipment can ensure you’ve got an efficient and productive kitchen that can be put to excellent use. Your staff will have the products they need to fulfil their role to the highest of standards and you can be confident in meeting any and all customer requirements, so make sure to invest in the right pieces of equipment and you’ll have a fully-functioning kitchen before you know it.

Make sure you’ve got the right tools for the job

25/06/2012
Any catering environment needs the right tools for the job if it’s going to live up to customer expectations. Having the right food, staff and setting will of course be vital, but what about the kitchen? There’s nothing worse than being unprepared, so making sure you’ve got the right kind of kitchen equipment should be at the top of the agenda.

Be ready for anything with the right catering supplies

You need to be prepared for anything that the catering world could throw at you, because you never know what kind of function you’ll have to cater for next. You wouldn’t want to have to rush around buying new equipment at the last minute so it makes sense to be prepared, and that means you need to have all the right tools ready and waiting at your disposal. You could need everything from combi ovens and chargrills to aprons, trolleys and timers, ensuring you’ll be totally prepared no matter what could come your way.

And, if you notice that pieces of equipment have seen better days, make sure to replace them as soon as possible. You wouldn’t want them to break down at a vital moment so always make sure you’ve got a backup plan just in case things go wrong, and ideally you’ll need to find a company that can offer next day delivery (such as us) so that if the worst should happen you needn’t wait long to get a replacement. But, there’s one thing that could well be on your mind above all others, and that’s price.

The right tools at the right price

Budgets are tight, and that means getting the right tools at the right price will be of huge importance. You don’t want to spend a fortune to get the equipment to suit but equally you don’t want to settle for poor quality products, and that’s why you need to find a company that can offer quality items at great value for money. Looking for catering equipment suppliers to suit? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Here at Nextday Catering Equipment we know how important getting the right tools for the job can be, and that’s why we offer everything you could possibly need and all at great value for money. We’re confident that we’ll be able to meet your every kitchen requirement, so just take a look around and you’re bound to find the products to suit.

Always be prepared

The importance of having the right tools for the job can never be underestimated. Fail to have the necessary products and you won’t be giving your customers the service they expect, and in the hospitality industry a damaged reputation can be hard to recover from. Meeting and exceeding customer expectations all depends on having the necessary kitchen supplies to hand, and if you want to make sure you’ve got the right tools for the job just take a look around and you’ll soon find all the products you could need to be ready for anything.
